Comic-Con Drive-by

Tomorrow I will attempt what I am deeming a Comic-Con drive-by. After years of the evnt falling on my birthday weekend and me being unable to attend, this year I said, "Fuck it". In the past ny major impetus for going was the show Lost. Although I can geek out with the best of them on comics, I'm more of a quiet browser in the back of the store. I know what I like(X-Men, Buffy) and other than the occasional story that catches my eye, I've never been one for cosplay or large crowds of people. But each year the San Diego Comic Con came and went and I missed the Lost panel only to hear a out the awesomeness via podcast and blogs. When Lost ended I figured that was it. Then came Game of Thrones ...

This is where my inner geek comes out, people. When I love a show, like truly love it, I turn into a sponge. A crazy sponge. I must know everything. So once I became hooked on Game of Thrones I had to read the books ... and the blogs ... and learn Dothraki ... and then I fond the tumblrs. Then I heard the cast of GoT would be at Comic-Con and it was like my second chance had come.

And here begins my 24 hours in San Diego. At Comc-Con. Hopefully through some shady backdoor dealing I will be attending the panel at 3 pm. And luckily, I found a great place on Airbnb.com which I highly recommend to anyone travelling.

Coming up next: Flying into N.Y. for birthday madness!

Calling All Cupids

My friend Katie, the most pushy and probably most successful person I know, has encouraged me to put myself out there romantically. I don't internet date because I think getting to know someone you've never met before during dinner is a little weird. I prefer meeting people through friends or at events or parties. Katie's suggested that if I wasn't going to try the internet than I have to let my friends know I'm looking. So here it goes:

Still ...

I've been doing some creative writing. The current state of my apartment causes a serious need for a creative outlet. So I thought I'd put a sampling:

Sonhos é Vida (Dreams & Life)
They walk towards me lentamente

Under Construction

My apartment has become a metaphor for my life. About a week ago I discovered that I have bedbugs. This discovery led to a a flurry of deep cleaning (washing ALL my clothes, steaming my carpets, pulling up my carpets, moving all my furniture and dusting, etc.) and a lot of stress. The upside of this is that I'm really assessing what I have, what I need and what I want.

Consequently, having a sudden upheaval with my apartment has forced me to evaluate myself financially, emotionally and professionally ... and I've come up wanting. Suffice to say, each stage of my impromptu renovation is leading me to think about renovating my life. More details to come but here's some pics of my apt in transition.

World Cup Fever

Even though the World Cup is over I wanted to talk about my new favorite thing ... soccer (or futbol) players. Seriously, next to Argentinian polo players and surfers (what it could happen), they are officially the hottest men on the planet. And now that I know that every four years there will be an entire month donated to watching them come together and sweat, I've found my calling. Originally I tuned into the World Cup because it was happening in a place I love, South Africa. And then I found something else to love ... the men. Here are my fab 5.

A Tale of Two Weekends

Memorial Day weekend and the weekend before marked two big events in my life. The first was the series finale of LOST. For most not exactly a milestone but for this viewer it was the culmination of six years of watching, reading, listening, philosophizing and mostly importantly, it was a moment where I fully immersed myself in a community I hadn't even realized I was a part of. I was lucky enough to go to L.A. for the Lost series finale party organized by Jay and Jack. I got to see a genuine Dharma van and listen to Michael Emerson wax rhapsodic about any and every thing. Listening to that man speak was one of the highlights of my life and seriously made me regret not pursuing acting. He's just a genius.
